Was a Woman Wearing a Sign in a Rally, “My Legs are Open for Refugees”?
A photograph supposedly showing a woman wearing a sign reading “My Legs are Open for Refugees” got a considerable amount of attraction on social media. The photograph was originally published on 2nd May 2017 by a political consultant Roger Stone on his Facebook page “Stone Cold Truth”. The actual photograph was captured during a refugee support rally in the month of September 2015 in the Canadian city of Saskatoon. It was showing a woman wearing a sign reading “My Door is Open for Refugees”. The website snopes.com also added original and altered image in a similar story. A local radio station also reported on their website that “as Syrian refugees continuously fleeing their homes and making an extreme journey across hundreds of Kilometers.
More than hundred people came out on Sunday to show their handsome support in Saskatoon. They were carrying various signs such as “Refugees are Welcome” and “No One is Illegal”. The massive demonstration took place through downtown from City Hall to the Service Canada Centre on 1st Avenue. The original version of this photograph was captured for CKOM News by a reporter Lasia Kretzel. It was showing the logo for Amnesty International (a human rights group) that has been using the slogan since at least 2017, “My Door is Open for Refugees”. The supporters from Amnesty International can be viewed for wearing similar signs in a different but same event photograph.
